  • Harris County Veterinary Public Health 612 Canino Rd. Houston, TX 77076 281-999-3191

  • Please read all information carefully, initial each line, then sign and date at the bottom of the agreement.

  • 1. I understand that Harris County Pets (HCP) does not guarantee this animal in any way as to health, performance, behavior, or bloodline.

    • The animals in the care of Harris County Pets may have been turned in to us by citizens, turned in by owners, or picked up on the streets of Harris County. As such, HCP is unaware of the medical, genetic, or behavioral history of the animals in our facility. Staff will advise of any known or observed medical or behavioral issues and will make our best determination as to animal breed mix and age.

    • When an animal arrives at HCP, we perform an evaluation and examination. Initial vaccinations are administered. However, it is possible that an animal could be incubating illness or disease, and vaccines may not protect them.
  • 2. Rescue animals should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.

    • HCP will not reimburse any veterinary costs that may be incurred, regardless of the health of the animal rescued. This includes any costs associated with illness of current pets which may have been contracted from the newly rescued pet. Rescue group/rescuer shall have no cause of action whatsoever for money against Harris County arising out of or in relation to this agreement.
  • 3. I/we understand that Chapter 828 of the Health and Safety Code requires sterilization of animals (spay/neuter) prior to adoption by a third party, and I/we agree that animals will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption by a third party. If an animal, because of for instance age or health, is not sterilized before adoption, I will enter into a written sterilization agreement with the adopter in compliance with Section 828.003 of the Health and Safety Code. I/we understand that my failure to enter into such a sterilization agreement with the adopter is a criminal offense punishable as a Class C misdemeanor.

  • 4. I/we understand that information collected by Harris County Pets is subject to the Public Information Act including the contact information I/we have listed below.
